- 1 cup milk
- 2 tbsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup water
- pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 3 cups all purpose white flour
- 1/2 cup california raisins
- oil for brushing bowl
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp water
- 3 tbsp icing sugar
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warmed milk, yeast, and sugar. Stir well and let sit for 10 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy.
- Add in eggs, water, salt, melted butter, and cinnamon to the yeast mixture. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually add 1 cup of flour at a time until a dough ball forms.
- Stir in the raisins until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Lightly grease a bowl with oil and place the dough inside. Cover with a damp towel and let it rise in a warm location for 90 minutes.
- Once risen, divide the dough into 9 large or 12 smaller rolls and place them on a baking sheet.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Allow the rolls to rise for an additional 30 minutes, covering again with a damp towel.
- Brush the tops of the buns with the beaten egg wash.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- In the meantime, mix water with icing sugar until thickened and put into a piping bag.
- Once cooled, pipe a cross over each bun with the icing sugar mixture.
- Serve warm with butter and enjoy!
Notes
Make sure the milk is warmed but not hot to activate the yeast effectively.
For best results, use fresh yeast and check the expiration date before use.
Feel free to add other dried fruits or spices for variation.
