Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups (260g) whole wheat flour, spooned & leveled
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 2 tablespoons (25g) packed light or dark brown sugar
- 1 and 3/4 cups (420g/ml) buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the waffle maker on medium-high heat and the oven to 200°F (93°C). Set a wire rack on a baking sheet aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Set it aside.
- In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, and brown sugar. Then, whisk in the buttermilk and vanilla until combined. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix gently, leaving some small lumps.
- Grease the preheated waffle maker and pour about 1/3 cup of batter into each well. Close the lid and cook until crisp, about 4-5 minutes. Transfer cooked waffles to the wire rack in the oven to keep warm. Repeat until all batter is cooked.
- Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.
Notes
For a crispier waffle, ensure the waffle maker is fully preheated before cooking each waffle.
You can store any leftover waffles in a zip-top bag in the freezer for a quick breakfast on busy mornings.
Experiment with different toppings like fresh fruit, maple syrup, or yogurt.
