Description

This Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish features a flaky puff pastry filled with a creamy cheese mixture and strawberry jam. It’s easy to prepare and delivers a delightful flavor experience, making it an excellent choice for breakfast or a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 17.3 oz. box puff pastry dough, (2 sheets), thawed but refrigerated
  • ½ cup strawberry jam, other flavors also work
  • 1 tsp orange or lemon zest, (optional)
  • 1 tbsp milk, any type works
  • 1 tbsp turbinado sugar, or use granulated sugar
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar with a mixer until smooth, about 1 minute.
  3. Unfold the puff pastry sheets on the baking sheet, ensuring they are divided into three vertical sections. The middle section is for the filling.
  4. Cut 1-inch strips on both sides of the pastry, leaving the middle section connected at the fold.
  5. Spread the cream cheese filling evenly in the center of each pastry sheet.
  6. Mix the strawberry jam with optional zest and place it over the cream cheese filling, using about ¼ cup of jam per pastry.
  7. Fold the outer strips over the filling in a crossing, braiding pattern, ensuring they cover the filling.
  8. Brush the top of the Danish with milk to wet the visible pastry sections.
  9. Sprinkle turbinado sugar on top of each pastry.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Allow the Danishes to cool for 15 minutes before preparing the glaze.
  12. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to a pourable consistency, adjusting as needed.
  13. Pour the glaze over the cooled Danish, let it set, slice, and serve.

Notes

For a fruit variation, feel free to substitute with different jams or fresh fruits.
Ensure the puff pastry is chilled before working with it; this helps achieve a flaky texture.
Adjust the sugar in the glaze depending on your sweetness preference.
