- 2 cups freshly milled whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the freshly milled whole wheat flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and yeast. Let it sit for a few minutes until it's frothy.
- Add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients along with the eggs. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle, then spread with softened butter and sprinkle with additional cinnamon and sugar if desired.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into equal pieces.
- Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise until doubled in size.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
For a sweeter roll, increase the sugar by a couple of tablespoons.
You can add raisins or nuts for extra flavor and texture.
Serve warm, ideally with a drizzle of icing or cream cheese glaze.
