Description

This recipe for whole wheat cinnamon rolls features freshly milled flour for an irresistibly flavorful treat. Perfect for breakfast or as a comforting snack, these rolls are simple to make and will satisfy any sweet tooth.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups freshly milled whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the freshly milled whole wheat flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and yeast. Let it sit for a few minutes until it's frothy.
  4. Add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients along with the eggs. Mix until a dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  6. Roll the dough into a rectangle, then spread with softened butter and sprinkle with additional cinnamon and sugar if desired.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into equal pieces.
  8. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise until doubled in size.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

For a sweeter roll, increase the sugar by a couple of tablespoons.
You can add raisins or nuts for extra flavor and texture.
Serve warm, ideally with a drizzle of icing or cream cheese glaze.
