Description

Caramel Apple Trifles are a delightful treat, showcasing soft granny smith apples, cake cubes, and a creamy Cool Whip layer. Quick to prepare and undoubtedly satisfying, this dessert blends irresistible flavors for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 granny smith apples
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 12 ounces pound cake
  • 8 ounces cool whip
  • 6 tablespoons caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Peel and dice the apples into small cubes and place them in a medium saucepan.
  2. Add lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar to the apples, stirring well.
  3. Allow the mixture to simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes until the apples soften and the sugar forms a syrup.
  4. Set the mixture aside to cool somewhat before assembling.
  5. Cut the pound cake into bite-sized cubes.
  6. Prepare a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the Cool Whip for easy dispensing.
  7. Begin assembling by placing a layer of pound cake cubes in serving glasses or jars.
  8. Top with a layer of the apple mixture, followed by a drizzle or spoonful of caramel sauce.
  9. Pipe a generous layer of Cool Whip on top.
  10. Repeat the layers with pound cake, apples, caramel, and Cool Whip once more.
  11. Finish with a final drizzle of caramel on top and serve immediately or refrigerate if desired.

Notes

Feel free to use any cake variety you enjoy, such as white or angel food cake.
This recipe is easily doubled if you need to serve more people.
For added texture, sprinkle some chopped nuts on top before serving.
