Instructions
- In a heavy-bottomed sauce pot over medium heat, combine butter, sugar, brown sugar, karo syrup, sweetened condensed milk, and salt.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula, ensuring to scrape the bottom until the sugar dissolves and the butter melts.
- Raise the heat to high and stir constantly until the mixture reaches 225 degrees F on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat immediately to halt the cooking process and let it cool for at least 20 minutes before serving.
- Pour the caramel into a serving dish and serve with sliced apples.
Notes
For a different flavor, add a dash of vanilla extract once the mixture is off the heat.
This dip can be stored in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
