Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • orange & purple & green food coloring
  • halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cornstarch. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy for about 5 minutes.
  3. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, then stir in the sour cream until combined.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until everything just comes together. Avoid overmixing.
  5. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least an hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F when ready to bake.
  7. Roll the chilled dough out to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into circles using a 3-inch cookie cutter.
  8. Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8–9 minutes until barely baked for a soft texture.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool completely before frosting them.
  10. For the buttercream frosting, beat the butter until fluffy, then mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  11. Gradually add milk to achieve a smooth, spreadable consistency, adjusting as needed.
  12. Divide the frosting into three bowls and color each with your chosen food coloring.
  13. Frost each cookie using a piping bag or offset spatula, then top with Halloween sprinkles.

Notes

Chilling the dough helps to achieve a better texture when baking.
Cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
Feel free to mix in any Halloween-themed decorations for added fun.
