Description

This homemade spaghetti sauce is rich and bursting with flavor, featuring ground beef, fresh herbs, and tomatoes. It’s a quick and easy way to enjoy comfort food for dinner or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion diced (about 1 cup)
  • 1 pound ground beef 90/10 or 80/20
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 4 cloves garlic grated or minced
  • 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 parmesan cheese rind
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef and diced onion, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned, draining excess grease.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and dried herbs and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce, using a cup of water to rinse remaining sauce from cans before adding it to the pot.
  5. Mix in sugar and balsamic vinegar, then add Parmesan cheese rind. Bring to a boil, cover, and reduce heat to simmer for 30 minutes.
  6. Stir in chopped basil before serving over noodles, or cool for future use.

Notes

A parmesan cheese rind adds extra flavor to the sauce, but it’s optional.
This sauce can be refrigerated for up to a week or frozen for longer storage.
Adjust the seasoning according to your taste preference.
